Grant Funding Competitions – September 2018

Every month there is a range of new innovation funding competitions announced. Here’s our summary of all the latest grant funding competitions opening in September 2018 that R&D Funding Group can provide bid writing services for. This includes all the competitions opening this month and those still open for entries from previous months.

Full details of each competition can be found on the Innovation Funding section of the GOV.uk website and links to each individual competition are below. This list will be updated as new competitions are launched.

 

Open Grant Funding Competition: Round 3

Innovate UK, as part of UK Research and Innovation, will invest in the best cutting-edge or disruptive ideas with a view to commercialisation.
All proposals must be business focused, rather than pure research. Applications can come from any area of technology, science or engineering, including arts, design, media or creative industries, and be applied to any part of the economy.

Total funding available: £20 million
Competition opens: Monday 24 September 2018

Faraday Battery Challenge: Innovation R&D, Round 3

The goal of this 3rd round of the Faraday Battery Challenge is to support business led research and development in the design and development of batteries for electric vehicles. Projects must focus on the technical or commercial challenges in battery innovation, development and manufacture through UK supply chains.
Funding is split over 2 competitions – this element is for industrial research and experimental development projects and the other for feasibility studies.

Total funding available: £23 million

Faraday Battery Challenge: Innovation Feasibility Studies, Round 3

Funding is available from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund for feasibility studies focused on de-risking the scale up of battery development technology. The aim is to support business led research and development in the design and development of batteries for electric vehicles. Funding is split into 2 competitions – this element is for feasibility studies and the other for industrial R&D projects.

Total funding available: £2 million

Digitalisation of Medicines Manufacturing: Challenge Fund

Innovate UK, as part of UK Research and Innovation, are looking to invest in capital infrastructure innovation projects. This is to enable existing medicines manufacturing operations to improve their scope, efficiency and effectiveness through the application of digitally-enabled technology. Your proposal must show how digital technology can integrate or enhance the steps in a manufacturing and supply chain.

Total funding available: £8 million

Digital Health Technology Catalyst Round 3: Feasibility Studies

Innovate UK, as part of UK Research and Innovation, is to invest in feasibility studies that can potentially develop new digital technology solutions to healthcare challenges. You can develop solutions for either clinical or non-clinical use. Projects must be innovative and clearly demonstrate how they will have the potential to improve the health and care system.

Total funding available: £1 million

Digital Health Technology Catalyst Round 3: Collaborative R&D

Innovate UK, as part of UK Research and Innovation, will invest in industrial research and experimental development projects that develop new digital technology solutions to healthcare challenges. You can develop solutions for either clinical or non-clinical use. Projects must be innovative, collaborative and clearly demonstrate how they will have the potential to improve the health and care system.

Productive and Sustainable Crop and Ruminant Agricultural Systems

UK Research and Innovation, through the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund, will invest £20 million in innovation projects. These projects must improve productivity and sustainability by developing enhanced decisions support, precision agriculture technology solutions and systems for crop and ruminant agriculture.

APC 11: Advancing the UK’s Low Carbon Automotive Capability

£20 million of collaborative match funding is available for UK-developed late stage R&D to support advanced low carbon propulsion technologies in automotive. The Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) invests up to £30 million, 3 times a year, in collaborative R&D projects. These are pre-production projects and must be match funded.

APC 11 is seeking proposals for UK based R&D projects that significantly reduce carbon dioxide emissions and improve air quality. APC are looking for projects that support the UK’s long-term capabilities and supply chain in the design, build and manufacture of zero-emission vehicles.

Biomedical Catalyst 2018 Round 2: Late Stage

UK SMEs can apply for a share of funding to work on solving healthcare challenges in a clinical setting or a relevant late stage environment. The Biomedical Catalyst funding awards are designed to help SMEs developing a product or process to provide an innovative solution to a health and care challenge. You should have prior credible research on your proposal, including a demonstration of validation in a relevant model system.

Total funding available: £10 million

Biomedical Catalyst 2018 Round 2: Primer Award

UK SMEs can apply for a share of funding to work alone or with others on solving healthcare challenges in a model system. This is a competition for a primer award in the Biomedical Catalyst which supports the development of innovative healthcare products, technologies and processes. The scheme supports progression from initial concept through to late stage development.

Increase Productivity, Performance and Quality in UK Construction

UK organisations can apply for funding from the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund to increase productivity, performance and quality in construction. Innovate UK, as part of UK Research and Innovation are specifically looking for projects to improve the 3 core stages of the construction lifecycle:

– Designing and managing buildings through digitally-enabled performance management
– Constructing quality buildings using a manufacturing approach
– Powering buildings with active energy components and improving build quality

Total funding available: £12.5 million

EUREKA Eurostars 2, Round 10

Innovative SMEs can apply for a share of funding to collaborate in research with partners across Europe and associated countries. You can apply for Eurostars funding for any sector and industry. It can address any technological area but must be aimed at the development of a new product, process or service.

Connected and Autonomous Vehicles 4: Piloting Passenger Services

The Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CCAV) is to invest in up to 4 industry-led projects that develop and then ‘pilot’ CAV services at scale in a UK setting. UK businesses can apply for funding to research new connected and autonomous vehicle technologies and demonstrate them in a real-world trial. This competition will fund collaborative research and development projects.
